The UCLA Diabetes Education Program, led by highly skilled nurses and registered dieticians offers personalized care for patients with all forms of diabetes including type 1, type 2, and MODY. Our multidisciplinary group works closely with primary care and endocrine physicians and is located throughout multiple locations in the Los Angeles area. Friends and family members are considered an integral part of the care process and encouraged to attend our diabetes education programs for patients..
The UCLA Diabetes Education Program areas of specialization include:

Diabetes education workshops
Our education team leads workshops for patients living with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Workshops are aimed at providing education in an interactive group setting where patients learn about the care and treatment of type 2 diabetes. Workshops are provided in various formats, including partial and day-long sessions on type 2 diabetes.
The Type 2 Diabetes full-day workshops address the following:
- Healthy Eating – Making healthy food choices is central to managing diabetes
- Being Active – Regular physical activity is important for improving overall health
- Monitoring – Knowing your levels is important for good control, and learning what to do with your numbers is integral
- Taking Medication – Medications are frequently part of a diabetes treatment plan
- Problem Solving – Learn strategies for dealing with diabetes related problems
- Reducing Risks – Learn how you have the ability to delay or avoid complications
- Healthy Coping – Living with diabetes can be overwhelming, learn how to decrease stress and improve your outlook

Living with Type 2 Diabetes
These ADA-certified self-care classes will help you gain important skills, knowledge and confidence to successfully manage your diabetes.
When: Thursday from 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
- 1st Thursday of the month: Introduction to Diabetes, Problem Solving & Reducing Risks
- 2nd Thursday of month: Nutrition for Diabetes
- 3rd Thursday of the month: Diabetes Medications
- 4th Thursday of the month: Being Active & Healthy coping

Type 1 Diabetes support group
Insulin Connection (IConnect) Westside
Join a support group for people with diabetes who use insulin through multiple daily injections or insulin pump. Become informed and get emotional support in a relaxed and fun atmosphere.
Come exchange ideas with other people with diabetes like you, network and discuss topics related to living with diabetes.
