About Us

The UCLA Celiac Disease Program is dedicated to providing high quality care for patients with celiac disease and non-celiac gluten sensitivity. The program aims to advance the medical community's understanding of the disease through clinical expertise, education and research.

The program focuses on a multidisciplinary approach to the management of gluten-related conditions. The Vatche and Tamar Manoukian Division of Digestive Diseases works closely with UCLA's world-renowned gastrointestinal pathology and laboratory medicine experts to secure an accurate diagnosis. The team also collaborates with providers in other departments such as endocrinology, rheumatology and neurology to provide comprehensive care for patients with celiac disease and non-celiac gluten sensitivity.

The Celiac Disease Program providers are experts at making a diagnosis of celiac disease and distinguishing celiac disease from other gastrointestinal conditions that can cause similar symptoms.

If you suspect that you have celiac disease, ask your UCLA provider to order a celiac blood test to check for the specific antibodies related to celiac disease. However, a biopsy of the intestine is generally needed before you begin a gluten-free diet to confirm celiac disease.

New patients are encouraged to provide prior records (blood test results, endoscopy reports and biopsy results) in advance to facilitate a productive appointment.
