What Do Infectious Diseases Specialists Do?
ID specialists are medical detectives. They are called upon by other physicians to help diagnose the most complex and elusive cases and to develop strategies to prevent and treat a wide range of diseases affecting all parts of the body. Read more >
Inpatient Care
The Division of Infectious Diseases provides in-patient consultation services at two medical centers:
We offer a special consultation service for hospitalized organ transplant patients, both before and after the transplant surgery.
Outpatient Care
The outpatient consultation services in Westwood and Santa Monica provide consultations in the diagnosis and treatment of known or suspected infections, management of outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy, and ongoing care following patients' hospital discharges.
Patients are seen in consultation after a physician referral has been requested. The referring physician should fax us:
- A written physician order stating diagnosis/reason for ID consult
- Clinical notes
- Labs and radiology reports
Once records are received for physician review, you will be contacted by our clinic to schedule an appointment.
HIV Care
Our providers offer compassionate, comprehensive health care services for HIV-infected patients and are experts in HIV diagnosis, counseling, and treatment, opportunistic infection diagnosis and management, and treatment for AIDS-related malignancies. Our physicians are leaders in the investigation of new antiviral therapies, new biologicals and cytokines, growth factor therapy, and novel gene therapy approaches.
