Surgical Abortion (First Trimester)
Surgical abortion in the first trimester (up to 13 weeks and 6 days), also known as suction aspiration or D&C abortion, can be performed in a one-day procedure. This can be done in a doctor’s office with local anesthesia and oral pain-relieving medications, or in a hospital setting under sedation.
Medical Abortion
Medication abortion, also known as non-surgical abortion, is way to end an early pregnancy. Medication abortion can be offered in an office setting or, for those who are eligible, via telehealth.
Surgical Abortion (Second Trimester)
Surgical abortion during the second trimester (from 14 weeks to 23 weeks and 6 days) is also known as a D&E abortion. D&Es are typically performed over two to three days, though do not require an overnight stay.
