Common ocular traumas (injuries) include ruptured globe, intraocular foreign bodies, orbital fractures, eye contusions, retinal detachment, chemical burns of the cornea and conjunctiva and corneal abrasion. Ocular traumas can greatly impair vision and may be vision threatening if not treated immediately. Primary surgical repairs are generally performed immediately for new trauma. Secondary repairs are usually scheduled later. In many cases, the management is simple observation.
