Big help for little hearts
Located steps away from the nationally acclaimed UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital and Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, The Children's Heart Center cares for children of all ages with any kind of heart disease, from common and benign heart conditions to the most complex congenital heart defects.
The center includes a friendly waiting room and play area, five examination rooms, a dedicated counseling room, a state-of-the art maternal-fetal suite, and an exercise/autonomic testing and device area. A renowned team of specialists in fetal and pediatric cardiology provide comprehensive outpatient diagnostic testing and consultation in one convenient location.
Our mission
Internationally recognized for its long history of clinical and scholarly contributions to the field, UCLA's Pediatric and Congenital Heart Program provides:
- Comprehensive, state-of-the-art care for all children with known or suspected congenital or acquired heart disease
- Innovative, collaborative scholarship that advances the field
- Training of the leaders of tomorrow
The Children's Heart Center is dedicated to serving the needs of all pediatric cardiac patients and their families. The center's close collaboration with the Ahmanson UCLA Adult Congenital Heart Disease Center, located adjacent to the UCLA Children's Heart Center, provides pediatric patients and their families with a seamless transition into life-long cardiac care.
Family friendly services
Everything about our center - from the natural lighting in our waiting room to the knowledgeable and compassionate office staff, nurses and physicians - aims to make children and families feel at home.
We offer initial appointments within 24 hours of referral (when needed), a full range of family support services, and formalized patient feedback to help us with ongoing improvements.
Our social workers help families access community resources, educate parents and children about heart disease, and teach teenagers how to manage their illness as they transition into adulthood.
Our pediatric cardiology nurses provide personalized support and direction to families of children with heart disease.
For patient convenience, all our services - from consultations and ECCs/echocardiograms to advanced diagnostic tests and injections - are consolidated under one roof.
Maternal-fetal suite
The UCLA Children's Heart Center includes a maternal-fetal suite where our fetal-cardiology specialists use the most advanced technology available to evaluate and monitor the unborn child with known or suspected heart disease. Using 2D, 3D and 4D imaging technologies, we diagnose congenital heart disease as early as the 12th week of pregnancy. A collaborative team of expert specialists manages the follow-up care after initial diagnosis.
Steps from Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center
Babies expected to need heart catheterization or surgery soon after birth can be delivered at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, the same hospital where we successfully perform some of the most complex heart surgeries and transcatheter procedures in the world. UCLA pediatric cardiology specialists are leaders in the development of minimally invasive, transcatheter techniques, which help children avoid open-heart surgery. Our ability to deliver babies in the same facility where neonatal surgery/cardiac catheterization are performed avoids subjecting fragile infants to the stress, risk and delay associated with hospital transport, and allows new mothers to stay near their critically ill newborns throughout this stressful time.
