How it’s done:
EVLT is performed by making a small puncture in the lower leg, usually a few inches above the inside of the ankle area. Lidocaine is injected along the vein to help numb the leg during the procedure. A special catheter is inserted through the puncture to close down the vein. You will be prescribed a numbing cream to place on your leg the day of the procedure. Ablations typically last about an hour.

Risks of procedures:
Most procedures carry a risk, for these venous treatments the risks are minimal. Complications may include allergic reaction, bleeding, blood clots, ulceration, infection, or non-closure of the vein.
Post-procedure:
You will be required to wear a compression stocking for a week after the procedure. An ultrasound will be done 1-2 weeks after the procedure.
Minimal pain is experienced with this procedure and you may drive yourself to and from the appointment.
