UCLA Urology Ongoing Clinical Trials for Pediatric Urology
A clinical trial is a study conducted with actual patients, usually to evaluate a new treatment. Each study is designed to answer scientific questions and to find new and better ways to help patients.
Pediatric Kidney Stone Care Improvement Network (PKIDS)
The Kidney Stone Center and Division of Urology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, in conjunction with UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital, are conducting a study of patients 8-21 years old who are having a surgery to remove kidney stones. Participants may earn up to $100 for responding to surveys about pain, anxiety, psychological stress, relationships with peers, urinary tract symptoms, and medication use before their surgeries and for 3 months following their surgeries. This nationwide study will help health care providers understand which procedures are most successful for pediatric patients, understand the patient experience of these procedures, and offer better information for shared decision-making to future patients. This study is focused on patient experience and stone clearance. Patients all continue to receive standard of care treatments which are not affected by participation in this study.
