At UCLA, we work hard to make goals specific for your needs and to achieve lifelong weight management.
Goals should be simple, yet clearly define what it is you want to do. Goals can be defined as short-term or long-term. Both types of goals have benefits. Short-term goals allow us to see progression constantly whereas long-term goals look at the bigger picture of change.
Ask yourself the following when developing your goals:
- What do I want to do?
- Why do I want to do this?
- Where do I need to do this?
- How am I going to do this?
- When do I want to do this by?
- What challenges or obstacles might I foresee?
- How will I keep myself on track?
- Who is my support system?
Be realistic, be specific, be practical.
Once you have answered these questions and developed your goals, it is important to discuss them with your family, friends and healthcare providers. UCLA offers a variety of programs to help support patients in achieving their goals. Click here to learn more.
