Dr. Lisa A. Nicholas, an obstetrician-gynecologist and associate clinical professor and vice chair of equity diversity and inclusion at UCLA's David Geffen School of Medicine, was honored with the Women in Medicine Award from the National Medical Association Council on Concerns of Women Physicians. Awardees are selected for their exemplary contributions to the field of medicine, their advocacy for the advancement of women physicians and commitment to transforming the face of medicine through teaching, leadership and mentorship.

Throughout her 30-year-medical career, Dr. Nicholas has provided top-tier healthcare to women from all walks of life and helped to shape the future generation of clinicians, driven by a desire to influence young physicians to practice compassionate care. Her dedication to reducing health disparities, especially among communities of color, has been a cornerstone of her work. In 2020, moved by the tragic death of George Floyd and the glaring health inequities exposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Nicholas took decisive action by creating a task force dedicated to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, further cementing her legacy as a leader in the fight for healthcare equity.

As an active member of the National Medical Association, she continues to be a catalyst for growth and transformation within the healthcare community.
