How we will keep you safe during the COVID-19 Pandemic
We have adjusted many of our operations to keep our patients and staff as safe as possible, but we are still available to provide you the concussion care you need. Our visits are mainly in-person with some telehealth visits available as well. Please go through our regular scheduling channels below for more information and to schedule your appointment. Who Should Come See Us?
The UCLA Steve Tisch BrainSPORT Program seeks to serve our community’s needs for concussion/mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) and sports neurology care. We provide evaluations and treatments for care at any point after a concussion/mTBI. Patients may seek our clinical services soon after an injury occurs or may come to us any time during recovery for treatment options. We provide individualized treatment recommendations aimed at returning our patients back to their typical baseline activities, including school, work, and physical activity. We also see patients with a history of concussion/mTBI who may be suffering from long-term neurological deficits. In addition to our post-concussion care, we provide pre-participation neurological exams for our athletes in our clinic.
We also provide neurologic care for our athletes who are participating in sports with neurological conditions, including headaches/migraines, seizures/epilepsy and other chronic neurologic diseases.
Our multidisciplinary clinical team includes neurologists, neuropsychologists, occupational therapists, dieticians, and clinical coordinators. Additionally, we have relationships with sports medicine physicians, orthopedists, physical therapists, and ophthalmologists for referrals as needed. We have clinic appointments Tuesday through Friday and see patients of all ages.
Patients and/or caregivers of patients who are interested in seeking care should contact us using the below clinical contact information. A member of our team will be happy to coordinate an initial evaluation.
Our Multidisciplinary Approach
The UCLA Steve Tisch BrainSPORT Concussion Clinics throughout west Los Angeles provide a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach for the evaluation and management of concussions and returning patients and athletes to school, sports, and activities. Our multidisciplinary team comprising of neurologists, neuropsychologists, occupational therapists, and dietician work closely together, in real-time, to evaluate patients and athletes and provide a comprehensive treatment plan and monitoring. Our multi-disciplinary treatment teams tailor specific components of therapy that are individually targeted, and include: brief-cognitive behavioral therapy, medication management (with experts in headache disorders, including migraine), vestibular therapy (for balance and oculomotor symptoms), occupational therapy, exercise therapy, and dietary changes. These treatment modalities can be combined in an individualized approach for more targeted interventions and are offered in person or remotely.
Our team works closely with referring physicians and therapists to customize an individual recovery plan based on a patient’s injury and concussion symptoms. We also work with parents, school personnel, coaches and athletic trainers to ensure students suffering from concussions can safely resume physical and cognitive activities. We provide care for many types of patients, including student athletes from club teams, high schools, colleges, professional athletes and those with non-sports related brain injuries.
The UCLA Steve Tisch BrainSPORT Program is expanding to better serve the Los Angeles community. We are one of only six in the United States that provides neurological care to current and former National Football League (NFL) players. We also provide neurological care to military service members who have traumatic brain injuries through Operation Mend.
