Santa Monica Volunteer Opportunities
Hospitality: Welcome Ambassador (Information Desk)
Our trained volunteers assist at one of our information desks at UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center, Surgery Center and Medical Procedure Center. Greet people, look up patient room numbers and provide general information and assistance. Extensive training will be provided. Volunteers access electronic medical records to provide assistance for patients and visitors needing directions. Volunteers must be friendly, possess good customer service and communication skills, are computer literate, dependable, patient and able to come in on time on scheduled days.
Wayfinding
Hospitality: Surgical Waiting Area
Act as a liaison between the families in the Surgical Waiting Area and the staff in the Operating Rooms and Recovery Unit. Check patients and waiting family members in, explain the process and update people as information becomes available. Must be extremely customer-service oriented, empathetic and possess good communication skills.
Patient Transport / Materials Management
Volunteers will assist in the Patient Transport office at the UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center. Discharge patients, assists in transfers and generally help the patient escort staff. Great for students who would like to see all areas of the hospital and get clinical exposure. Flexible weekday and weekend hours.
Volunteers will assist Materials Management in delivering equipment or supplies to hospital departments, requested units and inpatients.
Floater
Under the Volunteer Services' supervision and direction, floaters contribute in a wide array of duties and responsibilities, which include administrative and clerical tasks. Volunteers must be flexible, computer literate and able to walk around hospital delivering items, if necessary, for part of shift . Shifts are Monday through Friday during business hours only.
Creative Arts Program
This is a patient related position. Volunteers share the positive benefits of art and round to patient units, spending time with patients at bedside, and provide art/craft materials and activity kits for patient use.
Music at Bedside
Special Services
Volunteers assemble and deliver special birthday boxes and boxes of cheer for our patients. Volunteer hairstylists (licensed California cosmetologists only) cut patient's hair upon request via patient nurse.
Palliative Care
Volunteers visit palliative care patients throughout the hospital, some at the end-of-life.
