Scientific Interests
Dr. Jackie Casillas' research interests are in the areas of access to care, quality of life and quality of care for long-term survivors of childhood cancer. Some of her current projects include: assessing access to care for adult survivors of childhood cancer in the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (CCSS); assessing health status, medical care and preventive health practices of Latino adult survivors of childhood cancer; and explaining psychosocial and quality of life outcomes in Latino long-term survivors of childhood cancer.
Casillas and her colleagues are currently completing a qualitative study assessing psychosocial/behavioral outcomes in Latino childhood cancer survivors through assessment of positive outcomes (perceived benefits and personal growth) and negative sequelae (depression, anxiety and somatic symptoms) with particular attention to how the family influences their current health practices through in-home interviews and focus groups. She also is completing a mixed methodologies study (qualitative/quantitative) assessing the issues surrounding transitioning adolescent and young adult survivors of childhood cancer to adult center healthcare. Lastly, she is involved in secondary data analysis utilizing the CCSS, the largest national cohort of childhood cancer survivors, in which she is completing a quantitative assessment of health outcomes, health care utilization patterns and health behaviors in adult minority survivors.
