Care Compliments

Chen X.

Dr. Chen Xie is an outstanding physician! My mother and I are very pleased with his care.
We were referred to him by my mother's PCP, regarding a concern we had about an autoimmune disease. When we saw Dr. Xie, he was very attentive to my mother's ailments and listened carefully to our worries. He made sure to ask various questions and conduct a thorough physical exam to examine all the aches, symptoms, and discomforts. Then, he ordered additional lab testing and x-rays, to rule out any other possibilities. In the meantime, he prescribed medication that my mom would be able to take for pain management, as she is on a very restricted "medicine diet." At the end of that session, Dr. Xie was confident that my mother's issues were not caused by the major problem we were afraid of. We walked out of his office with a sense of relief and confidence that day!
Upon returning for the follow-up, Dr. Xie went over the results and also addressed any questions that we had, very patiently. Once again, he was very thorough and informative with his explanations. He referred us to Physical Therapy, which we were glad to hear is the best treatment for my mom.
We totally recommend Dr. Xie. He works in a thorough, patient, and strategic manner and will make sure that all your concerns are answered and addressed. If you are referred to him, consider yourself to be in good hands!

Labor and Delivery F.

I am moved to tears writing this as I have an endless list of nurses to thank. The Labor & Delivery/Postpartum nursing staff at UCLA Westwood is above reproach. The kindness and compassion my family and I received after such a difficult pregnancy was nothing short of phenomenal. Beginning with my FDU nurses Stacy and Fiona, who were constant sources of positive energy spanning weekly check ups. In addition L&D nurses Christine, Tanisha, Emily, Brianna, Regina, Nataleigh and Monica. I could write a novel about how each of these wonderful women impacted my birth experience, they each made me feel a level of care and compassion that was truly unparalleled. I'd also like to mention care partner Erica, she bathed my son in a way that was so kind and loving I'm not sure as his own mother I'll ever be able to beat. In addition, lactation specialists Nicole and Christie were pivotal in making sure I was educated and set up for a successful nursing journey. The L&D nursing staff is the heart and soul of the facility. I am forever indebted to the nursing staff and cannot wait to deliver with them by my side in the future.

Abigail B.

Abigail responds quickly to all my emails and requests for appointments with various specialists and is invariably polite, notwithstanding my impatience when my back pain is worse than usual. She clears all dates and times with me and understands my desire to get to the next step as quickly as possible. She is terrific in every way!

Amar K.

To whom It May Concern:

It is with great pleasure and sincerity that I write to thank Dr. Amar Kishan for his dedication to his patients and more personal note, to my father. My father was diagnosed with PC last October at Kaiser. We left Kaiser to find better care. After researching, we found ourselves at UCLA and Providence Medical. After, consulting with 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th opinions, we were awe-struck at the professionalism Dr. Kishan displayed. Aside from being extremely knowledgeable, he has an innate ability to convey information in a patient, caring, and reverent manner.

He took the time to understand my father's illness, but also how it has impacted him as an individual. He asked my father questions about his personal life to really understand how each risk would affect him as an individual. He guided us through his choices, he discussed, he educated us, and answered every question in detail. We wanted to make a fully educated choice and Dr. Kishan never once made us feel incapable of understanding what we were facing. He made sure my father walked out of the appointment well informed and feeling like he would get Dr. Kishan's full attention. Dr. Kishan accommodated our needs by allowing my sister and I to be able to attend a meeting virtually so that we may support our father. Dr. Kishan even made a phone call the very next day addressing some questions that we still had. He called my sister first thing in the morning before starting his busy day at work. I have never known a provider to be so thorough and compassionate.

I would also like to thank his staff, particularly Danielle Max, PA whose demeanor is just positive, kind, and understanding. She did not hesitate to offer further assistance should we need it. Everyone in Dr. Kishan's office from the front desk to himself has been exceptional. It it truly a pleasant experience to know that my phone calls are not going to add to our stress level. I am convinced this in no accident. Great leadership leads to great things. Dr. Kishan has truly gone above and beyond in his role as a physician. I believe he performs his duties as a radiation oncologist with genuine joy, curiosity, and passion. We are still waiting to see if we might need to be treated by Dr. Kishan, pending post-surgery results, meanwhile knowing we are in great hands should we need it, is a relief. I have already recommended Dr. Kishan to 3 different people on a support group who are on the list to see him. I just hope I am not booking him up because we might need him!

Alice K.

Dr. Alice Kuo is an amazing primary care doctor. She spends extra time with her patients including me. She always stays later to see me at 4pm. She gets where I am coming from. Dr. Kuo helped get my parents to see that I should have the ileostomy surgery and helped to make sure my parents understood it had nothing to do with my diet but its the way my anatomy is.

Mary K.

I love how caring and compassionate Dr. Mary Kwaan is. She goes above and beyond for me as her patient. She continued to see me after my hospitalization and will be doing my ileostomy surgery. I never met someone like her before.

Maria G.

Maria assisted me with checking in for a walk-in appointment with an immediate care provider. There was a question regarding whether this UCLA facility was in-network for my insurance coverage to have the appointment. She went above and beyond to check with my insurance company to confirm the appointment would be considered in-network and gave me the call reference number in case I had any issues. She could have easily and rightfully directed me to a different urgent/immediate care. I greatly appreciate her help when I needed it.

Nima M.

Dr. Nima Milani-Nejad is a wonderful dermatologist. He has treated my husband and I for three years. Excellent diagnostician, who has found several early skin cancers on both of us and treated them immediately. Dr. Milani-Nejad has a great personality and is a caring doctor.

Dania, Tiffany; the anesthesiologist, the resident Dr and others T.

I would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses and staff that attended to me during my out patient total thyroidectomy experience with Dr. Avital Harari. I regret not making note of everyone's names so that I could acknowledge each person individually as they were each outstanding in kindness and empathy. I will mention my night nurse who measured the circumference of my neck every hour who never waned in her humor for the situation of my sleepless night, not to mention I was denied water for 14 hours, so I was entering a pretty desperate state of nerves by morning when the doctor said the hematoma seemed to be reabsorbing successfully so that reopening the dissection wouldn't be necessary. I mention this because even in this anxious circumstance, because everyone was so kind, it was simply realistic to stay calm about my discomfort. When I was being discharged I asked the "care coordinator" if she could explain why everyone seemed to have positive attitudes about their jobs. She said that upper management extended the respect of confidence in people doing their best and thus the hospital culture was one of trust and not judgement. This seemed to have an effect on the patient population, if I can speak generally based upon myself. I have never had a hospital experience like this and I wish all the staff continued professional satisfaction. That above all insures the excellent quality of care that a patient receives. Thank you all.

Evelyn C.

Everybody at the Redondo Beach UCLA office at 514 Prospect Ave. has been wonderful. Our whole family of five are patients here. We are always able to get appointments and even when provider schedules are booked they are always very accommodating and helping us get squeezed in. The front staff works hard to get people checked in efficiently and even on busy days are always friendly. The medical assistants and nurses are wonderful. Dr. Evelyn Curls is great!! She is so comfortable to talk to and very thorough with her appointments. She was quickly able after running some bloodwork to find an answer to some thing that has been bothering me for years. The online my chart is great and she is so quick in getting back to me with advice and answers to my questions.

Karen W.

Nurse Karen provided notable great care for my mother for two nights during her hospital stay. She was very caring and made sure her patient was in a comfortable sleeping position each night. She was very punctual with hourly check ins and was sure to explain exactly what she was doing and what medications she was administering each time. I was present both nights and felt confident that my mom was in good hands the first two nights of her surgery recovery.

Maria A.

Care partner/nurse assistant Maria A. provided notable exceptional care for my mother during her hospital stay. Throughout her stay my mother has been cared for by five or six different "Care Partners", and my mom shared that Maria was the best and most helpful. Maria was thorough, detail oriented and demonstrated compassion. She did more than just check vitals and empty drains, she made sure my mom was comfortable and took the time to connect with her. She was very appreciated!

I didn't note her last name.

She was punctual with hourly check ins and and provided additional check ins and follow ups to make sure my mother was comfortable. I was present both days and felt confident that my mom was in good hands the first two days after her surgery.

Mary G.

Mary went above and beyond in all aspects of care - you will be lucky to get her as a nurse.
There are no worries when Mary is my nurse. She helped me contact a person to help with disability, found out where to claim my belongings, and more. She made me feel comfortable and tended to everything I needed as a healthcare professional and she embodies what nurse should try and strive for.

Marina D.

I don't recall the last time I've had a health care staff go as above and beyond as Marina did for my son. Beyond providing amazing care, and being super personable and conscientious, Marina was instrumental in helping to obtain medical coverage for a genetics test that was not covered by my insurance (without her assistance, we would not have been able to pay for the test, and would not have been able to obtain a diagnosis which helped change the course of medical care for my son). Marina was available always for questions and help. If health care workers were more like Marina, we'd have the ideal health care system. I can't thank her (and Dr. Julian Agosto Martinez) enough! UCLA is lucky to have her on staff.

Gail I.

Dr. Gail Ishiyama is one of the best doctors I have ever gone to. She spent so much time with me really getting to the root of my problem. I have been to several doctors before her who dismissed my symptoms, and she went out of her way pinpoint exactly what my issues were. Every other doctor told me I had Estacion Tube Dysfunction when she kept digging and finally found it to be Minears Disease. We need more doctors who take the time to listen and understand what the patients are going through.

Robert K.

Dr. Robert Kozlowski was one of the largest components in my continued wellness before, during and after my Acinic Cell Carcinoma (Paroltid Cancer) diagnosis. It was a harrowingly scary roller coaster ride that just wouldn't let me "sit this one out." I think of Dr. Kozlowski every day. My forever gratitude is why I returned to public school teaching; I was spared for a reason and it probably wasn't to make actors look great on set. Long after the threat of illness is gone, Dr. Kozlowski answers every question I have and never ever makes me feel rushed. He's UH-MAZING!

Dana U.

I was well on my way to an ultrasound appointment when I realized I forgot my purse. Meaning no way to pay for parking. I contacted UCLA Health and spoke to Dana, who coordinated with the morning staff at 1245 16th st Suite 202 to get my parking validated. The staff were very accommodating in making sure I got validated given the fact I was unable to pay by credit card or cash. I am relieved they worked through this barrier for me so I didn't have to cancel my appointment.
