Dr. Rahman was part of the team for my recent surgical procedure. I live with type 1 diabetes and wear an insulin pump. I was impressed with the care and concern that he took with his assessment prior to my procedure. Because of diabetes and its long duration he had to take extra steps to ensure that I remain safe. He also allowed me to keep my hybrid insulin pump on during the procedure. I was impressed and awestruck that he allowed me to keep it on rather than remove it. As a result, my glucose levels remained very stable during and after the procedure. This was a matter that I was worried about and lost some sleep over the night before the scheduled procedure. I appreciate Dr. Rahman's care, compassion, and above all his skill set to ensure that I remain safe during surgery. I never got the chance to thank him and those that worked under Dr. Rahman's direction. Thank You Dr. Rhaman!

Chris G.

Hello, Unfortunately I recently had to visit the emergency department in horrible pain. All the staff I met were great. But I feel I need to give Chris an extra compliment. I feel Chris understood I was in immense pain and he made a lot of effort to help seek the medical attention I needed (sooner than later). He made me feel better. As you can imagine I was there for a while. I also watched him clean up the waiting room of debris, re-organize the wheel chairs and over all spoke to all the patience with CARE. Thank you Chris.

Weber C.

Casey Weber is an outstanding member of UCLA Health. Casey called me when there was an opening to schedule my surgical procedure after another patient canceled. Somehow she was able to help me get everything that needed to be done prior to the procedure in only 3 weeks which is not a lot of time to prepare. She sent me the required paperwork right now, scheduled my initial return visits, and even responded to my urgent request in helping process my required paperwork in order to return to work within minutes. Casey went above and beyond the call of duty to make this happen and is a great team player. She is an asset to her Department and I just wanted to thank her and let her know along with her supervising administrators that she is a true asset to her team! Thank You Casey!

Dear Dr. Jackanich,

You treated me on January 25th in the ER for symptoms related to my IUD. I wanted to reach out and thank you again so very much for the care that you took with me. Not only did you speak to me with such empathy and care, but you put my needs well above any other consideration. It could have been another horrible experience for me, but because of your care, I left the ER healed, happy and healthy.

Looking back, I know that it would have been physically possible for you to retrieve my IUD if I had allowed you to try. But you gave me a choice that saved me so much trauma and physical pain, I attribute the happiness I feel today exclusively to your decision making skills. Your ability to factor in my past experiences and mental state along with the value that you placed on my well being, truly gave me the highest quality medical care that I have ever received.

You may not have been the doctor that grabbed the IUD but you certainly are the reason I was able to allow a pelvic exam and relax enough to have it removed. If you had not been my doctor that day, I would not have had been able to have it removed.

When I came into the ER I was afraid, in pain and traumatized but you were my advocate. I felt like that I was in safe hands. Eventually, I did feel comfortable enough to allow the ob that you called to give me a quick pelvic exam and my IUD was right there and she easily grabbed it. I had no pain, no fear, and no anxiety. And that is exclusively because of how you handled my case.

I can't thank you enough for the care you gave me. You saved me so much unnecessary trauma, pain and anxiety. Because of you, I had the IUD removed, have no long term side effects and did not have to be put under any medication for pain or anxiety. You treated my anxiety and as a result I experience no pain and have no scarring. I am so grateful that you treated me.

I just wanted to express my gratitude. I am sure you get positive feedback all the time but add mine to the pile.

Naomi was my point of contact in 2015 when I had my first discectomy; and I was so pleased to have her again over the last few months for my second. She goes above and beyond with her professionalism and kindness, making me feel like I am the most important patient in her world! She truly is a model for excellent patient care.

Hayley J.

In October, we brought our six year old son to a neurology appointment at UCLA after he began having seizures out of the blue that quickly intensified. What began as an overnight study became a three and a half week hospitalization as the team came together to try and help him. Because our son wasn't responding to medications, there was a need to do more and more tests, scans, blood draws, procedures, and medications. We felt like our world had tipped upside down, and it was heartbreaking to watch the toll this new reality had on our son. During these increasingly difficult days, Hayley Jang came to our son's room for music therapy. It seemed like he had been shutting down in a variety of ways, but when Hayley sang and played her instruments, you could see the light come back on for him. She reached out through music that he knew and enabled him to participate. She connected with him over things he was interested in, and she listened to him despite his struggles with the many medications he was on. She was willing to be a friend when his world consisted of nothing more than a hospital room.

A couple days when Hayley came, I knew the music she was sharing was the only bright spot of my boy's day---and that meant everything to me as a mother. Recently, months later, our son needed to return to the hospital for an overnight study. While the progress he has made has been remarkable, there was still some anxiety with returning to the hospital and being away from home and family again. Imagine our son's joy when Hayley came to his hospital room once more for music therapy and she remembered him! She remembered their inside jokes (fa-la-la-la) and had kept the picture he had drawn for her during his last hospital stay. Once more her friendship and music saved the day. What a beautiful person to make such an impact on someone's life. Our family is so grateful for the sunshine Hayley shared with us during our dark time. Everyone needs an employee, and a friend, like Hayley Jang!

In October, my six year old son was hospitalized for sudden onset of seizures. What started off as an initial visit to a neurologist turned into a three and a half week hospital stay at Mattel Children's hospital as so many came together to try and find the cause and ultimately how to stop the seizures. Because my son wasn't responding to medications, more and more procedures, tests, scans, blood draws, and medicines needed to be tried. It was a dark time for our son and our family as the world seemed to be tipped uncertainly upside down. Right when things were getting especially tough, Hayley came to our son's room for music therapy. While he was struggling to function under the different medications he was on, he came to life again when Hayley took the time to connect with him through music. She cheered him up with her beautiful singing voice, playing songs he knew and could be a part of. She was patient with him when he had a hard time talking or his behavior was erratic. She listened to him. There was a day when she came when it seemed like the music was the only thing that got him through--it made me cry to watch and meant everything to me as a mother. Recently, months later, my son needed to return to the hospital for an overnight EEG study and there was of course some anxiety that went along with that despite the leaps and bounds progress he has made. Imagine his delight when Hayley came to his room for music therapy during his return visit, and she remembered him! They had their inside jokes (fa-la-la-la) and she told him she still had the picture he had drawn her when he was previously hospitalized. What a beautiful person to make such a difference in the hardest time of a someone's life. Our whole family is grateful for what a remarkable service she did for us. Hayley and her music were pure sunshine in a dark time; everyone needs an employee, and especially a friend, just like her.

Arash N.

For decades Dr. Arash Nikoukari has been our Primary Care Provider. We are extremely grateful for the excellent care that he provided to my wife and I and to our extended family over the years. He has been approachable, available, clear in his instructions and has provided excellent referrals to manage all of our serious health issues.
We are also entirely pleased with all the specialists that assisted Dr. Nikoukari and we also believe that in Southern California UCLA is Number 1.
Thanks for all that you do.

Aron B.

My procedure was performed at Ronal Reagan UCLA Medical Center on December 14, 2021. The entire team was superb but Dr. Aron Bender, member of the UCLA Cardiac arrhythmia center, who performed the surgery deserves a special mention. It was difficult to assemble the entire team required. So, there was an approximate 4-hour delay in starting the procedure. Dr. Bender waited patiently and started as soon as possible. I am extremely thankful that he did and for all team members that were also affected and remained available. The periodic updates offered by the attending nurses and doctors were reassuring and calming.

The lead extraction went smoothly, as planned. The implantation of the new device was more problematic because of my anatomy. Blood vessels we too small to use the preferred (simpler) method. A second approach was used and that proceeded smoothly. In fact, so smoothly that I was discharged in the early evening hours on the same day.
During the procedure Dr. Bender provided my daughter Monique, a nurse practitioner at UCLA, detailed explanations on the progress of my surgery. She explained the difficulties encountered when we returned home and was happy with the care I received.

I am extremely grateful for the care received and the positive and professional attitude of all that cared for me.

My appreciation also extends to the care received in preparation for the implantation.

You are Truly Number 1 in my book. Again, my most sincere thanks to all.

Laleh J.

Dr. Laleh Jalilian took care of my mother recently for her hip surgery after she fell. She was such a nice doctor and put all of us at ease. We really loved chatting with her before surgery, and she came by and talked with me and my brother after our mom's surgery to let us know that our mom did great. Thank you so much for taking care of my mother!

Julie leads lovely Virtual Yoga Therapy classes. It's amazing what a difference a 30-minute class makes to my mental well-being. The yoga sequences flow nicely and Julie offers many alternatives to suit the participants' abilities. I am so grateful that UCLA Health provides this service.
