Khristine Ghemigian, MD, MHS

Hometown: Born in Bucharest, Romania but grew up mostly in Oak Park, CA
Undergraduate: Johns Hopkins University, BA Behavioral Biology
Graduate: Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, MHS, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Medical School: Wake Forest School of Medicine
Why I chose UCLA: After my interview day at UCLA I knew that it was 100% the place I wanted to complete my fellowship at. The faculty at UCLA are not only extremely knowledgable but also very kind and supporting. As a plus, there are multiple woman cardiac anesthesiologists that provide wonderful mentorship. In addition, UCLA has such a variety of complex cases and I knew that I would be prepared for the future. Also, after 15 years on the east coast I was excited to come back home!

Dr. Khristine Ghemigian grew up in Southern California as a competitive swimmer culminating as a colligate athlete. Although she no longer swims she enjoys staying active in her free time through running, hiking, or skiing. In addition, she loves to travel to new places near and far as well as taking her two very energetic pups to any beach possible.

Headshot of Joyce Hsiao

Joyce Hsiao, DO

Hometown: Rowland Heights, CA
Undergraduate: University of California, San Diego, BA Psychology
Medical School: WesternU Comp, DO
Why I chose UCLA: I chose UCLA for my fellowship because of the well-rounded clinical experience it offered me to be a strong perioperative cardiac anesthesiologist within both the operating room and structural cardiology settings. The attendings here are highly skilled and eager to share their experiences and knowledge with trainees. I was also eager to be part of the diversity and complexity of clinical cases, structured didactics and perioperative echocardiography training.

Dr. Joyce Hsiao is a native of southern California, who is ecstatic to be back near her hometown. She is grateful to return to her roots where she can spend more time with her family especially her niece and nephew. During her free time, she enjoys playing pickleball, visiting various beaches, shopping, trying new foods and cooking with her husband.

Headshot of Cheng Cheng Ma

Cheng Cheng "C.C." Ma, MD

Hometown: I moved around a lot but spent high school and college in North Idaho
Undergraduate: University of Idaho, BS Microbiology
Medical School: University of Washington School of Medicine
Why I chose UCLA: I chose UCLA for fellowship for the excellent clinical and echo teaching by enthusiastic faculty and exposure to broad range of patient pathology, robust mechanical circulatory support program, and strong CTICU training. My husband and three daughters are also enjoying living in the city and the warmer beaches.

When she's not in the hospital, Dr. C.C. Ma enjoys spending time with her husband and three daughters, exploring LA, hiking, and doing all things outdoors. Her dream is to own a self-sufficient homestead complete with chickens, orchard, garden, and compost heap.
