Heidi Bean, MD

Hometown: Elmhurst, IL
Undergraduate: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, BS Mathematics
Medical School: Rush University Medical College
Residency: Anesthesiology, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center
Why I chose UCLA: I was drawn to the UCLA regional program because of their incredible faculty, peripheral nerve catheter program, and unique schedule. Fellows work 1-2 weekdays/week in the general OR to keep up general anesthesia skills while becoming an expert in regional on the other days of the week - this is SO valuable!

Dr. Heidi Bean worked as a software quality assurance engineer prior to starting medical school. During her free time, Dr. Bean enjoys running, pirate sailing, and watching history shows on YouTube. Her professional interests include quality improvement and patient safety. In the future, she hopes to take on a role in hospital leadership for quality improvement.

Undergraduate: San Diego State University, BA Biology
Medical School: Western University of Health Sciences
Residency: Anesthesiology, UCI School of Medicine
Why I chose UCLA: When choosing a fellowship, I knew I wanted to attend a program that would strengthen my catheter skills and give me the knowledge and expertise to develop an acute pain/catheter program in the future. UCLA seemed like the obvious choice given their well-established program, reputation for excellence, along with kind and supportive faculty and staff. My positive experiences thus far have further confirmed that UCLA has been a great fit for me!

Dr. Claudia Hammi’s professional interests include acute pain management and regional anesthesia, along with medical education. Dr. Hammi hopes to further advance the field of regional anesthesiology and provide mentorship to her colleagues, residents, and medical students. Her interests outside of medicine include baking, traveling, kickboxing, frequenting the beach, trying out new restaurants, and hanging out with her new labradoodle puppy, Maui.

Jeffrey Kim, MD, MS

Hometown: Irvine, CA
Undergraduate: UCLA, BS Physiological Science
Graduate: Georgetown University, MS Physiology and Biophysics
Medical School: University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix
Residency: Anesthesiology, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA
Why I chose UCLA: For me, UCLA was the perfect blend of an excellent training in anesthesia, career opportunities, and happiness outside of the hospital. I've been happy and grateful to be here, and one of the biggest reasons I chose UCLA was because of the people. Having finished residency and now completing fellowship training at UCLA, what I appreciate the most is the relationships I've made with my residency class, education office, and faculty.

Dr. Jeffrey Kim served as one of the Chief Residents during his Anesthesiology residency training at UCLA. His interests include watching and playing football, basketball, and soccer. During his free time, he also likes to grill, play golf, play board games, host potluck dinners, and experiment with new recipes.
