Clinical Training Experiences
Training Experiences
The resident’s clinical training experiences will revolve around patient encounters associated with a variety of services at UCLA Health and allcove Beach Cities. Within UCLA Health, the resident’s clinical training experiences will occur within two services:
and the Med-Peds Psychology Residency Clinic (MPPRC). The patient populations will consist of adult and pediatric populations, including adults with chronic conditions and primary care patients experiencing mental health conditions commonly seen in primary care (e.g., depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, gender dysphoria).- The University of California Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (UC-LEND) Clinic is a renowned multidisciplinary service for families and individuals with ADHD, autism, and related neurodevelopmental disabilities offered via UCLA Health. The UC-LEND Clinic is affiliated with a variety of primary care clinics across Los Angeles County, including Burbank, Downtown Los Angeles, Santa Monica and Santa Clarita. Most of the services provided by the UC-LEND Clinic are conducted via telehealth visits. Residents will receive training in conducting comprehensive psychiatric evaluations that include the assessment of various neurodevelopmental disorders and other co-occurring psychiatric conditions and providing shorter-term evidence-based psychotherapy (15-20 sessions). Residents will have approximately 8-12 hours per week of clinical training experiences in UC-LEND.
- Med-Peds Psychology Residency Clinic (MPPRC) – through this clinic, residents will see patients with sickle cell disease or substance use disorder. Residents will receive training in conducting evaluation of substance use disorders and co-morbid mental health conditions, conducting group and individual intervention with patients along the substance use treatment continuum, and training and supervision in a widely used evidence-based, cognitive-behavioral therapy focused on substance use. Residents will also be trained to meet behavioral health treatment provision standards of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM).
