Clinical Training Sites

Founded as a volunteer-run free clinic in 1970, Venice Family Clinic (VFC) now has 14 locations across Los Angeles and is a federally qualified health center affiliated with UCLA. The Simms/Mann Health and Wellness Center was acquired by Venice Family Clinic in 1995 and serves as a continuity clinic site for UCLA Internal Medicine, Pediatric and Med-Peds residents. The clinic provides comprehensive medical care including primary care, health education, behavioral health, dental care and vision among other services. 

In addition, VFC is home to groundbreaking street medicine teams who work beyond clinic walls in the community to provide care to the homeless. UCLA residents can spend time with street medicine providers on an elective to learn more about this unique field of medicine. 

UCLA Medicine-Pediatrics Comprehensive Care Center (MPCCC) is located across from UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica and provides primary and urgent care services. Equipped with in-house infusion rooms, radiology, laboratory and health educators, clinicians have the tools to provide comprehensive and timely medical care that is cost-saving and reduces ER utilization. Training at both MPCCC and VFC provides a wide breadth of primary care experiences for our Med-Peds residents.

Ronald Reagan UCLA is located in the heart of Westwood Village adjacent to the UCLA Campus. It ranks as the number one hospital in California and fourth in the nation according to the 2020 U.S. News & World Report. It is a tertiary and quaternary referral center and one of the top transplant centers in the world. The 520 bed facility serves as home base for our residents, where the majority of rotations take place. 

Olive View UCLA Medical Center is an academic county hospital located in the San Fernando Valley, approximately 30 minutes from UCLA campus. We are fortunate to have a mutually beneficial partnership with the Olive View UCLA training program.  Residents rotate here as interns and seniors on both medicine and pediatric services. The county hospital experience is integral to our program as it provides a focus on the underserved and equips our residents with the skills to practice medicine in a resource limited setting.

UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica is a 266-bed teaching community hospital. The Santa Monica community is unique given its large homeless and affluent populations, allowing residents to care for a variety of socioeconomic and cultural classes in one setting. Santa Monica is the home of our Hospitalist rotation where residents will develop significant autonomy and get a look into the life of a community physician. Residents also rotate through Solid Oncology and through our Geriatrics program, consistently ranked in the top 3 in the United States by U.S. News and Word Report. Subspecialty consultations and outpatient experiences are available at this hospital as well. The Santa Monica rotations prepare residents to be autonomous community doctors.

The West Los Angeles VA Medical Center, located in Westwood just a mile from the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, is one of the largest referral centers in the VA System. It provides both primary and tertiary care to veterans. The 262-bed facility is comprised of a medical and surgical intensive care unit, cardiac telemetry unit, general medicine ward, inpatient geriatric ward, acute inpatient rehabilitation ward, and an inpatient psychiatry ward. In addition to the inpatient medicine rotations, the emergency department and medicine subspecialty are key components of our rotations. All medical staff of the West LA VAMC have academic appointments at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. 

As the newest clinical site to be added to our residency program in 2020, Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital is a free-standing pediatric teaching hospital and provides a robust clinical training experience in pediatrics. Since it first opened in 1970, the hospital has expanded to support teaching, research, and comprehensive pediatric care, receiving over 14,000 admissions a year and home to more than 800 pediatric generalists and subspecialists. Our residents spend time on the inpatient and nursery wards working alongside UCLA and UC-Irvine Pediatric residents. 

Harbor UCLA Medical Center is a high-volume, high-acuity Level 1 Trauma Center and Pediatric Trauma Center in the South Bay area of Los Angeles, caring for a primarily underserved poulation. Our residents rotate here for emergency medicine, training alongside Harbor Emergency Medicine residents at one of the oldest and most established residency programs for Emergency Medicine in the country.
