Kidney Programs
Kidney Health Program
UCLA Health’s kidney health team uses their extensive experience and advanced techniques to care for your chronic (long-term) kidney health issues. We use skilled expertise and the latest technology to preserve, and even improve, your kidney function. Our team guides you through your kidney care with specialized treatment programs at UCLA Health.
CORE Kidney Program
The CORE Kidney Program is composed of multiple sub-organizations that work to support the program itself as well as patients and professionals. We aim to spread awareness on kidney disease, and provide resources for all: patients, doctors, and the general public. We hold free educational events open to the public that give valuable information about manageable changes patients can make in their daily life to improve their well-being, and prevent future health problems. Our office also conducts clinical research trials, where patients of kidney disease can enroll in.
Artificial Kidney Health Program
Current clinical approaches to treat patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD) include hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and renal transplantation. We have developed a novel dialysis-free and waterless artificial kidney technology that has the potential to mimic the filtration properties of the renal glomerulus and the ion/water transport processes in the nephron. Importantly, the device does not utilize external water/dialysate or living cells.
Racial & Health Equity Programs
The Racial & Health Equity Programs include the UCLA Nephrology Racial and Health Equity Committee (RHEC) and the Kidney Disease Screening and Awareness Program (KDSAP).
The UCLA Racial and Health Equity Committee (RHEC) was created to identify factors that contribute to disparities in clinical care delivery and to provide meaningful solutions in order to achieve equitable care and improve clinical outcomes for our kidney patients.
KDSAP is a national student lead organization working to combat Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) through student career development and community outreach. KDSAP works to raise public awareness of CKD and promote early detection by providing free kidney screenings to underserved populations. KDSAP also provides undergraduate students with career development opportunities through relationships with local nephrologists, workshops, and trainings to help address the current shortage of nephrology specialists.
