Jennifer A. Adrissi, MD, MS

The Adrissi Research Lab led by Dr. Jennifer Adrissi, is a health services research lab focused on investigating the contributors and solutions to disparities in neurodegenerative disorders, particularly Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease. We employ community based participatory research (CBPR) strategies to develop and test solutions to address these disparities.

The mission of the lab sits at the intersection of outreach, advocacy, and research. Initial research models and interventions will be developed focusing primarily on the Black community in PD, a significantly understudied group that research has shown to have a higher rate of delayed/missed diagnoses, worse outcomes, and less access to specialized care. These models will be tested later for validation in other underrepresented groups and potentially in other disorders. The goal is to create effective, culturally informed research and interventions that contribute to more equitable access and outcomes in neurodegenerative disorders.

The Adrissi Research lab is centered on the following aims:

  1. Develop and study culturally informed and tailored resources for Black people with neurodegenerative disorders and their families
  2. Partner with community organizations to increase awareness of PD, PD research and other PD resources
  3. Develop community partnered interventions and tools to increase the participation of Black participants in neurodenerative research, including clinical trials
  4. Learn more about the natural history and genetics of PD in the Black community
