Virtual Crossmatch
Virtual Crossmatch is the process of assessing the results of solid phase and cell based HLA antibody identification assays to predict, or correlate to, the results of a physical crossmatch. Based on this data review, donor organ offers can be accepted or declined based on the predicted risk of transplant. This permits import of organs from outside the local organ procurement area for very highly sensitized kidney recipients or for recipients of other organs such as heart, lung or liver when a physical crossmatch is not performed prior to transplant.
