Categorical General Surgery Applicants

We will begin reviewing applications in early October.

To allow for a more comprehensive review of all applications and in accordance with recommendations from the Association of Program Directors in Surgery (APDS), we plan to send out interview invitations between October 27th – November 2nd.

We plan to interview approximately 100 total applicants across the following three interview dates:

  • November 13, 2024
  • December 18, 2024
  • January 8, 2025

All interviews for the 2024-2025 application cycle will be conducted virtually on Zoom.

Although we can’t have you here in person, we’ll do our best to give you a good feel for the UCLA General Surgery Residency Program via Zoom. On the morning of your interview day, we will invite you to attend part of our weekly educational conferences, including grand rounds and M&M. You will have individual Zoom interviews with the program director, associate program director, and 3-4 faculty members. In between interviews, you will have the opportunity to join Zoom breakout rooms to meet our residents and talk with them about their experiences in the program and life in Los Angeles.

Preliminary General Surgery Applicants

Applications are reviewed in January. Interviews are held by phone.

Once you are invited for an interview, please specify your choice of dates via ERAS email to Amie Phan. You will receive an e-mail confirmation via ERAS. All interviews should be scheduled at least two weeks in advance. If for some reason your plans should change and you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment, please be sure to call to cancel as we usually have a waiting list for our interview dates.
