The UCLA Pigmented Lesion Specialty Clinic provides care to patients with atypical/dysplastic nevi (moles) and with personal or family history of melanoma. The clinic is located at our Santa Monica location and is supervised by Dr. Teo Soleymani, one of our faculty members with a special interest in early detection, prevention, and management of patients with melanoma and atypical nevi.
Melanoma is the leading cause of mortality from skin cancer and its incidence has been rapidly rising. Melanoma can affect patients of all ages and is one of the most common types of cancer in young adults. Early detection of melanoma can be lifesaving as melanoma is curable when diagnosed during early stages.
During the visit, each patient undergoes a comprehensive full body skin examination, utilizing dermoscopy and sequential digital dermoscopic imaging for early detection of melanoma. Dr. Soleymani collaborates with UCLA Dermatologic Surgery, Surgical Oncology, and Medical Oncology with the goal of providing multidisciplinary, exceptional care to patients with atypical nevi and history of melanoma.
