The UCLA Gender Health Program sponsors, attends, and/or participates in numerous events during the course of every year. The list below details upcoming gender health related events. Some of the events are open to the public, while others are highly specialized seminars designed to enhance the knowledge of trained physicians and surgeons. When available, the event description will conclude with a link to websites devoted especially to the specific event.

The UCLA Gender Health Program presented an up-to-date, in-depth compendium of gender-affirming medical care, featuring sessions on developing an informed gender-affirming care program, basic and advanced hormone therapy, navigation through the gender-affirming surgical process, complex considerations in behavioral health care, considerations for youth and older patients as well as an update on the WPATH Standards of Care, Version 8 (SOC8). Presentations were given by members of the integrated, multidisciplinary UCLA Gender Health Program, invited guest speaker, Eli Coleman, PhD, Chair of the WPATH SOC8, and a panel of community members with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Trans Health Symposium: 2021

Live Virtual Learning

February 06, 2021 to February 07, 2021

The Transgender Health Symposium is a unique program designed to provide a holistic overview of mental and medical health, and social welfare around topics relating to Transgender and Non-Binary (TGNB) clients. This course will feature sessions around mental health care, gender affirming related medical procedures (surgical and hormonal), and gender-affirming healthcare practices. All topics will be provided by members of the Gender Health Program.

Trans Health Symposium: 2020

March 21 - 22, 2020

The Trans Health Symposium hopes to break barriers by providing in-depth, hands on, comprehensive training for both providers and community members around transgender and non-binary health and wellness. This includes focus on physical health, mental health and social welfare. Members of our UCLA Gender Health Program are included in the list of speakers. This 2-day meeting was held at Antioch University in Los Angeles.

UCLA CME Live Course - February 8, 2020

Comprehensive Medical Care for Transgender and Gender-Nonbinary Patients

The UCLA Gender Health Program presents an up-to-date, comprehensive and in-depth compendium of gender-affirming medical care. This course will feature sessions on gender-sensitive cultural awareness, behavioral health care, primary care, and medical and surgical gender-affirming interventions. All topics will be presented by members of the integrated, multidisciplinary UCLA Gender Health Program, to help providers from varied disciplines care for this population in a sensitive and effective manner. The program will be delivered in topic-specific sessions, each followed by a brief question and answer opportunity. Breaks for networking and informal discussion will be scheduled throughout the day.

This course is targeted toward anyone interested in in-depth exposure to medical care for this population, including physicians (in practice and in training) and allied health professionals in primary care, endocrinology, plastic surgery, urology, obstetrics/gynecology, as well as mental health professionals, social workers and nurses, and students of all above disciplines.

SoCal LGBTQIA Health Conference

Together We Shine: Illuminating the Past, Present, and Future of LGBTQIA+ Healthcare 

Join us on Sunday, February 9, 2020 for our sixth annual Southern California LGBTQIA Health Conference! We will be taking part in dynamic conversations on important queer health issues, learning about important disparities from leaders in health care, and empowering each other to make a positive change in our community. The conference will be held at University of California, Los Angeles – David Geffen School of Medicine.

Sex & Perinatal Mental Health Conference

January 13 & 14, 2020

This 2-day training explored how sex and sexuality impact and interact with mental health during the perinatal period. Amy Weimer, MD, co-director of the UCLA Gender Health Program and Molly Quinn, Health Sciences Assistant Clinical Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology at UCLA, will be presenting. Continuing education units will be provided. The conference was held at The California Endowment.

Genital Gender Affirming Surgery for Transgender Patients
with Dr. Gladys Ng

Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at noon in Geffen Hall 122

Dr. Gladys Ng is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor of Urology at UCLA. She earned her medical degree from Albany Medical College and her Masters in Public Health from Yale University. She subsequently completed her Urology Residency at UCLA and fellowship training in Genitourinary Reconstruction at Emory University. Her clinical and research interests include urologic reconstruction with a focus on both male and female pelvic conditions, as well as general urology. In this presentation, she will share her experience in performing genital gender affirmining surgery for transgender patients.

In partnership with the University of Wisconsin’s PRIDE Healthcare’s Rainbow Caduceus Project, DGSOM students who attend at least 3 MedGLO lectures offered this year will receive a rainbow caduceus white coat pin. The pin was designed for health professionals, students, and faculty to wear as a symbol of support for LGBTQIA+ patients and colleagues. These pins have been generously provided by DGSOM’s Office of Diversity, Inclusion, & Outreach.
