- Superior outcomes. Our adult ECMO program survival rates meet and often exceed national reported rates. Due to expertise with the technology, patients are placed on ECMO in a timely manner, which improves their chances of either being successfully weaned from ECMO or having surgery with fewer complications.
- State-of-the-art technology and dedicated cardiothoracic intensive care unit (CTICU). UCLA uses highly advanced ECMO circuits that are designed to minimize potential complications. The nursing and perfusion staff are highly trained individuals with expertise in caring for patients requiring cardiopulmonary support.
- Dedicated adult ECMO team. Our well-trained and dedicated adult ECMO team of intensive care unit (ICU) physicians, physician assistants, nurses, perfusionists, respiratory therapists and certified critical care transport nurses have achieved significant expertise in caring for these highly complex patients.
- Mobile ECMO transport service: The UCLA ECMO transport team may be deployed in safely transporting patients who may need ECMO, are already on ECMO or require initiation at outside facilities within geographic limits.
