The Department of Neonatology & Developmental Biology at UCLA has two additional locations where UCLA Health providers practice; Centinela and Los Robles.
Centinela Hospital NICU
Centinela Hospital NICU is an 11 bed, level 3 NICU located in Inglewood. The NICU has served the families of Los Angeles and the South Bay. At this community hospital, UCLA faculty has provided high level care for neonates born from 23 weeks' gestation to 42 weeks' gestation. In conjunction with the UCLA neonatologists, experienced NICU nurses and respiratory therapists work together as a team to deliver evidence-based, innovative care for critically ill infants. The outcomes have been tremendously positive, with 87% to 94% of our neonates being discharged home from the NICU.
Annual deliveries at Centinela hospital have been increasing due to the implementation of the OB Laborist Program. Further, Playa Vista, an emerging technology center of Los Angeles, and the SOFI Stadium havecontributed to the population growth in Inglewood. Centinela NICU plays an integral, vital and life-saving component for the families of Inglewood.
Centinela NICU not only specializes in quality neonatal care but also in clinical research. Uday Devaskar, MD, conducts research on breast milk pasteurization at Centinela NICU, which has resulted in publications.
Los Robles Health System Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Serving the west San Fernando Valley and eastern Ventura County since it was established in December of 1994, Los Robles NICU is a 12-bed level III NICU caring for critically ill infants and their families. A Level III designation means that infants born at less than 32-weeks and weighing less than 3.3 pounds have access to specialized care 24-hours-a day. In coordination with our 24-hour onsite OB/GYN colleagues, our team of neonatologists, nurses, and respiratory therapists attend high risk deliveries and care for sick and premature babies that need our help.
More than 400,000 infants are born prematurely each year in the United States. When problems arise at what is supposed to be one of the most joyous moments of life, it's reassuring to know that we will be there with you to support your family locally in the Conejo Valley.
