Curriculums
Exercise Curriculum
The Sound Body Sound Mind Exercise Curriculum was developed with three goals in mind:
- Educate students on the fundamentals of fitness and movement,
- Develop students into "skilled movers"
- Make fitness fun
Each goal helps students develop a knowledge base they can carry forward into their adult years and encourages students to remain active long-term. Our exercise curriculum is a unique combination of the best elements of fitness-based physical education programs, team sports, and research-based youth development strategies. Through a series of 30 lessons that provide a structured yet flexible learning environment, students develop confidence and competence in an enjoyable setting that focuses on personal improvement and mastery of physical tasks.
In 2022, we published our third edition of the curriculum with updates in theories and research backing the curriculum, new formatting and updated exercise photos.
Nutrition Curriculum
The Sound Body Sound Mind Nutrition Curriculum was developed by UCLA Health Sports Performance powered by EXOS. It contains lessons with corresponding activities and tips for teachers to implement during their physical education classes. Lessons include the impacts of nutrition, nutrients, hydration, making smart choices, planning for long-term health, and more.
Mindfulness Education Curriculum
The UCLA Health SBSM Mindfulness Education Curriculum was developed in partnership with UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center. This 10-lesson course has video lessons designed specifically for middle and high school students. Mindfulness has scientific support as a means to reduce stress, improve attention, boost the immune system, reduce emotional reactivity, and promote a general sense of health and well-being.
