The Pre-Med Summer Scholar Program is an educational program incorporating medical guest speakers and hands-on activities giving the Summer Scholar an involved sense of working in the field of medicine. The goal of the program is to expose the Summer Scholar to a variety of medical professions in hope that they make a more informed decision about their own path to medicine. This is not a "summer camp-like" program and housing and parking accommodations are not included. Past years' curriculum included:

  • Robotic and laparoscopic surgical skills
  • Imaging lesson
  • Pathology
  • Suturing session
  • Health Care Provider panel Q&A
  • CPR Training
  • Stop the Bleed training and certification
  • Basic science research lab tours 

The application is open US citizens in high school. To apply, students must be at least 16 years old and not yet attending college.

How to prepare for the application period:

  • Prepare to answer 1 short essay prompt
  • Have resume ready to upload
  • Notify your parent and prepare them to sign a Parent Consent and Waiver of Liability
Payment for Program (for those already accepted)

Important Program Dates

  • Applications Open: February 1, 2025
  • Deadline for Applications: March 15, 2025 @ 9AM
  • Notification of Acceptance (sent via email): April 1, 2025
  • Payment due by: May 1, 2025 (NO REFUNDS ISSUED AFTER PAYMENT DEADLINE)

Ideal Candidates:

  • Possess a strong desire to attend medical school to pursue a career in medicine
  • Current sophomores, juniors, and seniors attending high school in the United States. Students MUST BE 16 YEARS OLD (hospital policy) at the time of participation.

Program Fee

  • $1450
    • Fee covers instruction, facilitator time, cost of equipment and materials, and a polo shirt. Lodging, transportation, parking and meals not included.
    • Scholarships available based on need. Proof of participation in a government-sponsored financial assistance programLink is external(Link is external) or, reduced-fee or free food program. A verification letter from the applicant's school is required.

2025 Pre-Med Summer Scholar Schedule

Choice to participate in 1 of 2, FIVE-day sessions:

  • Session 1: June 23-27, 2025
  • Session 2: July 7-11, 2025

* We cannot guarantee accommodation for first choice session date.

* Both sessions will be completely IN-PERSON and ONSITE

Please note: Pre-Med Summer Scholars Program will be hosted in the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, the Center for Health Sciences, and the Rosenfeld Hall at UCLA campus and is subject to restriction, change, or cancellation.
