Chemical Hygiene Plan
- The Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Department has a Chemical Hygiene Plan that is accessible in the Laboratory Safety Manual.
Formaldehyde Safety
The hospital EH&S Office monitors employees with a potential of formaldehyde exposure as required by HS 8211, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine S37 or as needed.
Laboratory employees also complete a formaldehyde safety training to know how to safely work with formaldehyde in the laboratory.
Code Orange Trainng
According to HS 8207, Code Orange is defined as a Hazardous Material incident in the area involving a release of a known or suspected hazardous substance. A code orange is activated based on the known and unknown factors of the spill, including but not limited to the volume, toxicity, flammability and reactivity of the material spilled. Considerations in this activation also include the specific location where the material is spilled and persons affected in the area. EH&S performs quarterly drills and provides training to UCLA personnel in how to respond and manage chemical spills. Liquid Nitrogen Safety
According to HS 8205, liquid nitrogen must be handled and stored according to the precautions presented on the material safety data sheet and this policy. Staff expected to use liquid nitrogen is to receive training, which includes health hazards, protective clothing, proper containment and transfer procedures.
