Laser Safety
The Health System Laser Safety Committee has oversight responsibility for all lasers in the System and ensures the safe use of lasers.
The Committee also establishes processes; assists in the writing of laser policies, monitors events/incidents, reviews programs that are designed to protect anyone who might become exposed to laser radiation and ensure that education and training is completed in accordance with defined standards and regulations.
The Committee delegates’ authority and responsibility for the supervision of evaluation and control of laser hazards to the Laser Safety Officer (LSO), Erik Eggins, and Deputy Laser Safety Officer (DLSO), Melissa Prado.
Annual inspections are also conducted of all areas where lasers are used in order to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and fire safety policies. Reports of significant problems and recommendations are forwarded to the appropriate Department Manager, the Environment of Care Committee and the Laser Safety Committee
