The UCLA Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences is the home within the David Geffen School of Medicine for faculty who are expert in the origins of and treatments for disorders of complex human behavior.
The Department is also an integral part of The Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA which is a world leading, interdisciplinary research and education institute devoted to the understanding of complex human behavior and the causes and consequences of neuropsychiatric disorders.
An important domain of the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences, is the provision of clinical service and oversight of clinical practice through the Neuropsychiatric and Behavioral Health Services (NPBHS) of the Department's practice group. Organized under the practice guidelines of the David Geffen School of Medicine, NPBHS is overseen by a practitioner's board advisory to the Executive Chair and managed on a day-to-day basis by Dr. Michael Gitlin.
